Who is Jesus and Why Should I Know Him?
We believe Jesus is the Son of God. He came to earth to let you know that you are loved no matter what your faults and failings are. And that you have an abundant life here on earth and for eternity by knowing and following Him.
Do I have to "believe" before I visit?
No. In fact, that's why were here. We want to answer your questions and help you get to know and experience a relationship with Jesus.
Do I have to be a member to participate at Gloria Dei?
No. Only a very few leadership positions at Gloria Dei require membership. Everything else is open to your participation.
What is Prayer?
At the most basic level, prayer is a conversation with God. We talk He listens, He talks we listen. This may seem unrealistic or impossible at first, but we believe God does listen and He does speak to us. Prayer may take many forms, in public, out-loud, in private, etc. but the conversation is the same.
What does Gloria Dei mean?
Gloria Dei is Latin for "the Glory of God."
What's a Lutheran?
Lutherans are part of the protestant movement begun during the Reformation period in church history. At the center of the Reformation was a catholic monk named Martin Luther. Lutherans use ideas and writings of Martin Lutheran as part of their church makeup.
Are all Lutheran Churches the same?
In short, no. There are different groups of churches that call themselves "Lutheran," but may differ in a variety of ways. To get a true flavor of any church, Lutheran or not, it's best to visit and get to know the people you meet there.
Is Gloria Dei part of a larger church organization?
Yes. We are a member church of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod or LC-MS. The LC-MS is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. www.lcms.org
