Care and Support Ministries
Stephen Ministry "Christ caring for people, through people" is the goal of this one-on-one, confidential caring ministry at Gloria Dei. Over 200 gifted individuals have gone through 50 hours of training in this nationally recognized program, and have committed to a minimum of two years of ministry to those who are hurting in body, mind or spirit. To become a Stephen Minister or to receive care from one, contact Shirley at sarbet@gdlc.org, or Doris at msands2@houston.rr.com.
Hospital Visitation Volunteers are assigned to visit members and guests who are hospitalized at one of the local hospitals or rehabilitation centers. Visitors offer a word of prayer and encouragement as well as making sure they are on the prayer list. To learn more, contact Jan at janlarson280@hotmail.com or Pastor Scholz at ascholz@gdlc.org..
Shut-In/Nursing Home Visitation Members can choose to either make monthly phone calls to those members no longer able to attend church or make a monthly visit to those living in a nursing home. They are encouraged to pray with them, listen, encourage, send cards for birthdays and holidays and be their connection to the Gloria Dei family. Contact Cindy at cbabineaux@gdlc.org.
Meal Ministry Meal providers are a group of dedicated men and women who show their Christian love by delivering home-cooked meals in times of need. Whether the family has a new baby or someone who is recovering from a recent illness, hospitalization or surgery, those who enjoy cooking are able to reach out and provide "loving care" in this special way. To join this ministry, contact Michelle Scheer at samsheer@ghg.net.
Funeral Lunch Ministry (Gloria Deisies) This volunteer team prepares and serves a meal in the Life Center for grieving families, at no cost, following a funeral or memorial service at Gloria Dei. Both men and women are encouraged to participate in this special way of showing care and love in a time of loss. If you have the gift of serving, contact Betty at bgreenshield@hotmail.com
Breast Cancer Support (Marion’s Bosom Buddies) The focus of this ministry is to reach out to women who have or have had breast cancer, to care for those undergoing treatment, to transform lives by offering spiritual support and to serve by helping survivors become mentors. To give or receive care through this ministry named in memory of Marion Meyerson, contact Jean at 281.286.2462 or Connie at connie.pratt@sbcglobal.net.
Multiple Sclerosis Support Group (MS) “Focus on your Abilities, not your Disabilities” is the motto of the Lone Star Chapter of the National MS Society which meets every second Saturday, at 10:00am, at Gloria Dei. Meetings include tips for living well, friendship, fellowship, food and more! Contact Debra and Mike Fagan at msfagan@comcast.net
