Care & Health
Care and Health Ministries

In keeping with our mission to provide "loving care" for one another, we offer Christ's love and compassion through ministries like Stephen Ministry, Hospital Visitation, Nursing Home Visitation, Shut In Ministry, Meal Ministry, Funeral Lunch Ministry, Breast Cancer Support groups, Employment Networking Yahoo Group, Second Family, GriefShare and MS Support Group. For more information on any of these ministries, contact Shirley Arbet, Director of Care and Health Ministries at sarbet@gdlc.org, or Pastor Al Scholz, Assistant Director of Care Ministries, at ascholz@gdlc.org.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Galatians 6:9

Care and Support Ministries
Baby Blanket Ministry
Volunteers crochet or sew crib blankets which are donated to a local crisis pregnancy center. The center then gives them to young mothers as a keepsake in anticipation of their new baby to come. Crisis pregnancy centers share the love of Christ with new parents and offer a variety of classes to help them in the parenting process. Contact Vanessa Tilley at
vanessa.k.tilley@nasa.gov or 713-829-3438 to learn more about this ministry.

Stephen Ministry
"Christ caring for people, through people" is the goal of this one-on-one, confidential caring ministry at Gloria Dei. Over 200 gifted individuals have gone through 50 hours of training in this nationally recognized program, and have committed to a minimum of two years of ministry to those who are hurting in body, mind or spirit. To become a Stephen Minister or to receive care from one, contact Shirley at sarbet@gdlc.org, or Doris at hsands2@comcast.net.

Hospital Visitation
Volunteers are assigned to visit members and guests who are hospitalized at one of the local hospitals or rehabilitation centers. Visitors offer a word of prayer and encouragement as well as making sure they are on the prayer list. To learn more, contact Jan at janlarson270@comcast.net or Pastor Scholz at ascholz@gdlc.org..

Meal Ministry
Meal providers are a group of dedicated men and women who show their Christian love by delivering home-cooked meals in times of need. Whether the family has a new baby or someone who is recovering from a recent illness, hospitalization or surgery, those who enjoy cooking are able to reach out and provide "loving care" in this special way. To join this ministry, contact Janie at j_arvey@hotmail.com

Funeral Lunch Ministry (Gloria Deisies)
This volunteer team prepares and serves a meal in the Life Center for grieving families, at no cost, following a funeral or memorial service at Gloria Dei. Both men and women are encouraged to participate in this special way of showing care and love in a time of loss. If you have the gift of serving, contact Laraine at 281-474-3500 or Shirley at sarbet@gdlc.org

Breast Cancer Support (Marion’s Bosom Buddies)
The focus of this ministry is to reach out to women who have or have had breast cancer, to care for those undergoing treatment, to transform lives by offering spiritual support and to serve by helping survivors become mentors. To give or receive care through this ministry named in memory of Marion Meyerson, contact Jean at 281.286.2462 or Connie at 281-487-8964.

Employment Networking Yahoo Group
To check job listings, post a job or submit your resume, contact Jack Spiers at jdspiers@earthlink.net or send an email to GDLCEmploynet@yahoogroups.com.

Second Family
A Care Partner Ministry that helps provide respite care to caregivers and companionship to those who live alone. Once a quarter, volunteers meet on the Fourth Tuesday at 10am for encouragement, education and sharing. Volunteers are grouped into “Circles” with most teams consisting of 5-7 people who partner together with one individual or a family in need of assistance. The Circle functions as a “second family” to provide companionship and practical things family members do for one another. Most circle members commit to as little as 2-3 hours a month or more as they choose. To benefit from this ministry, or learn more about volunteering, contact Kay Wesson at k-wesson@comcast.net or Kathleen Roth at kathleenandphil@gmail.com

GriefShare
GriefShare is a 13 week seminar and support group for people who are grieving the death of someone close to them.  It's a place to be around people who understand what you are feeling.  Find community, understanding, support and encouragement that will help turn your journey from mourning to joy.  Each session is "self-contained," so you can begin at any point in the 13 weeks.  Videos featuring leading Christian authors, counselors, speakers and pastors are shown each week, followed by a small group discussion and time of sharing with others. Contact Diana Walls at 281-382-5132 or dianamariewalls@yahoo.com
