I'm New Here

Gloria Dei is a congregation of people. We have a beautiful campus and are on the verge of building a new second site. But that isn’t what makes Gloria Dei what it is – it’s the people. They are warm, welcoming people who love the Lord and others.

There are many events that might lead you to our campus, such as Upward basketball and soccer, or an Arts at Gloria Dei presentation, because we take pride in being a part of our community, but we hope you will be drawn to us for our worship. Worship at Gloria Dei is the highlight of our week, even the reason for our being in this community. We worship God with joy and celebration.

There are several styles of worship available to you. Our 8:00 am service in the Chapel is a traditional style with organ using the Lutheran Service Book. The 9:30 am service is held in the Worship Center and includes the rich hymnody of the church, choir, brass and organ. The 11:00 am hour offers two choices. The Worship Center is a contemporary style with a praise band and contemporary music. The Student Center is an edgier contemporary style with a focus on junior and senior high age youth.

We encourage you to bring your children with you to worship but we have a fully-staffed nursery, as well. KidzSpace is the name of both our new Children’s Ministry for grades 1-4 and the space in which it will occur. KidzSpace is a place where kids encounter an out-of-this-world love for God! It’s a place where the Bible explodes with excitement, where worshipping God is a blast, and where good leaders always care.

Here are the highlights.
* Children's space that is magnetic – drawing in children and families.
* Facilities that are safe and secure – equipped with state of the art check-in systems, access controlled hallways, and age-appropriate restrooms.
* Experiences that are the best hour of a kid’s week!

Driving Directions
We are located at 18220 Upper Bay Road, Nassau Bay Texas. We are located two blocks south of the Johnson Space Center on Nasa Parkway.

What should I wear?
We’re not big on suits and ties but some choose to wear them. Clothing should express a reverence to God, because we’re in his presence, so we ask you to wear clothing that reflects that relationship. Casual attire is certainly OK with us.

“I would die if someone asked me to stand up and introduce myself.”
We won’t do that to you. We have many guests each week and we certainly want to make your feel welcome. We’ve discovered that if we put you “on the spot” you will never return. We hope you will find us to be a warm, welcoming congregation that enjoys guests. We start with special Guest Parking – it’s closest to the entry. You’ll be greeted numerous times as you enter the facilities and if you look a little lost someone will try to help. Our facilities are large and we have found the best signs are welcoming people. We’ll help you find the nursery, the bathroom and the worship of your choice. During worship we’ll ask you to complete a communication card. That can be found in the rack in front of each seat. One side is for members to complete, the other side is for guests. As a first, second or third time guest we ask you to hold on to your communication card and deliver it to our Guest Connection Booth in the Central Commons. We have special gifts for you. We have discovered that guests get all the personal attention they need there and won’t feel embarrassed or singled out.

Discovering God’s Grace
As you start to feel more comfortable with us we hope you will feel a sense of peace among us that makes you want to become more involved. We certainly welcome you to be a member of our congregation if you desire but we won’t force membership on you. You will always be welcome here. Our Discovering God’s Grace sessions are held on Monday nights for seven weeks and it will help you get a view deeper into who we are, what we believe and how God is calling you to be part of this congregation. Upon completion you will have an opportunity to decide if you would like to be a member.

There are many opportunities for you to become active as a volunteer. We are known for our Serving Beyond ministry to the community. We are also a strong mission church and we take pride in providing opportunities for people to serve in many and varied ways. You don’t have to be a member to be involved. Stop at the Guest Connection Booth and we’ll help answer any questions and gladly connect you with the people who can involve you in any ministry area.
