Extended Care is an extension of the daily schedule of the Two-Year-Old Preschool through Kindergarten classes. The Extended Care classes reinforce and challenge children's developmental skills. Children enjoy weekly physical education, music and movement, center time, crafts, outdoor play, Chapel, Bible stories, and planned activities. Children also enjoy enrichment opportunities that include cooking projects, speakers and field days that correlate with lessons. A variety of Art Classes, Enrichment Classes and/or Spanish Classes may be available to children participating in the Extended Care Program. For an additional fee, your child can enjoy a children's drama class offered by "Onstage Kids" or a gymnastics class offered by "Tumblebus", both available on the Gloria Dei ECM campus.

May Newsletter
Dear Extended Care Parents,
It is hard to believe that the summer is almost here. The last day of pre-school is May 30th. Some children will graduate in May, others will leave only for the summer months to return in August, and still others will remain with us all summer long. If you are unsure whether your extended care child is eligible for summer care please stop by the ECM Office to speak with me. The children that are staying during the summer months may see some classroom changes beginning June 2, 2008. With teachers and children taking vacation with their families, take-down and cleaning the classrooms the children may change classrooms we will try to keep these classroom assignments as consistent as possible throughout the summer months. A classroom assignment list will be posted for your convenience on the Extended Care bulletin board and in the ECM Reception Area prior to the 1st of June. On Monday, June 3rd please take your child to their assigned extended care classrooms. Throughout the summer months, the faculty will be doing room clean-ups (due to that, notice will be given as changes occur).
The themes for the month of May are “Friendship” and “the Circus”. There will be many learning opportunities through the planned activities and games. The afternoon Chapel lessons will focus on “God Made the Beautiful World”. Some of the children’s activities may include a cooking project, so please look at the attached calendar and the Extended Care bulletin board for a sign-up sheet. We are now having some wonderful weather. Along with this wonderful weather will come a few hazards, the sun sitting higher in the sky and mosquitos. A medical form can be filled out to allow your child’s teacher to apply both mosquito repellant and/or sun block. The Nassau Bay community can help saves lives by participating in a St. Jude Trike-A Thon event to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The event, scheduled for 06-27-08 is sponsored by Gloria Dei Early Childhood Ministries. By participating in or attending the event, you will help raise funds for the internationally recognized hospital. If you are interested in participating or making a donation please stop by and speak with Mrs. Walker. For more information, please visit www.stjude.org/trike.
My prayers are with you and have safe and wonderful summer.
God’s Blessings, Elizabeth Mitchell Assistant Director of Early Childhood Ministries
