EARTH

Third planet from the sun is our planet Earth. On the surface we can feel the air from the wind, heat from the sun,
and water from the rain.

The earth has one moon.
Day – the time the moon goes around the earth is 24 hours
Year – the time the earth goes around the sun is 365 days

From space – see white clouds and blue waters
¾ of earth’s surface is covered by water: oceans, lakes, and rivers
¼ of earth’s surface is dry land, mountains, and plains
Atmosphere: Nitrogen & Oxygen
protect us from sunlight
All living things need oxygen to survive

Below earth’s surface: 4 layers of rock
Crust - outside layer of rock & soil (see, touch & walk on)
Mantle - rock and metal (some rocks so hot they are liquid)
Outer core – liquid (so hot)
Inner core – solid (hot) Center of Earth

Water Play Schedule - Monday, 12 May - Friday 16 May
Weather permitting; your child will have Water Play Day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, May 12-16.
Please send your children to school in their bathing suits and with sun block applied prior to arriving at school. Please have them wear sandals or water shoes (the sidewalks can get hot). They will need to bring a towel, a change of dry clothes (including dry shoes) and a plastic bag to put their wet suit and towel in after they change. It would be very helpful if everything was labeled with their name.
